Help for patients to understand brain cancer | Cancer Council

Brain cancer patients can now have access to new and easy-to-use support with the launch of Cancer Council NSW?s ?Understanding Brain Cancer? DVD, a free resource to help patients, carers, families and friends find answers and better understand the disease.

The DVD is a guide for people facing a malignant brain cancer diagnosis. It features interviews with those who have experience with the disease including patients, health professionals and the country?s top experts.

?Being told ?you have brain cancer? is incredibly upsetting because unlike many cancers, we don?t really know what causes it. Faced with such daunting survival rates, many patients struggle to digest their diagnosis and are unsure of where to turn to for support,? said Gill Batt, Director of Cancer Council NSW?s Cancer Information and Support Services

?That?s why this DVD is so important. For the first time, patients will benefit from a tailor-made support tool to ensure they are no longer left in the dark about their diagnosis and what help is available to them.

?Whatever stage you?re at with brain cancer, we hope that this DVD will help you with your journey. We?re with you every step of the way,? she said.

The ?Understanding Brain Cancer? DVD was produced in consultation with the neuro-oncology medical community and funded by Cancer Council NSW and Cancer Australia.

It is available now by calling the Cancer Council Helpline on 13 11 20.
